COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of ten persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, July 22, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, July 24, at midnight.

As of July 24, 2016, 513 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 534 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 337 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 169 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight July 24, 69 pedestrians died compared to 62 in 2015; 74 motorcyclists died compared to 83 in 2015; and 11 bicyclists died compared to nine in 2015 on state roads and highways.
