Telecommunications Operator Salary

The SCHP Telecommunications Unit is looking for the most highly qualified candidates to join our team. Your rank and starting salary would be based on the total years of Public Safety or Law Enforcement dispatch experience and current certification status.     

Telecommunications Operator Career Path 

Telecommunications Operator I (TCO I)

  • Initial Starting Salary – No Public Safety Dispatch Experience and not NCIC certified.
  • Starting Salary: $39,491

Telecommunications Operator II (TCO II)

  • Serves as an SCDPS TCO I for 18 months.  Successfully completes all certifications including NCIC/SLED/CJIS certification.
  • Certified Public Safety Dispatcher with a minimum of 18 months of experience and obtains NCIC Full Function certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Salary: $42,263

Telecommunications Operator III (TCO III)

  • Serves as an SCDPS TCO II for 18 months.  Successfully maintains all certifications including NCIC certification.
  • Certified Public Safety Dispatcher with a minimum of 3 years of experience and obtains NCIC Full Function certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Salary: $45,039

Eligible for promotion to rank of Assistant Telecommunications Supervisor (ATCS) – Promotional Process

Telecommunications Operator IV (TCO IV)

  • Serves as an SCDPS TCO III for 24 months.  Successfully maintains all certifications including NCIC certification.
  • Certified Public Safety Dispatcher with a minimum of 5 years of experience and obtains NCIC Full Function certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Salary: $47,822
