The SCHP Telecommunications Unit is looking for the most highly qualified candidates to join our team. Your rank and starting salary would be based on the total years of Public Safety or Law Enforcement dispatch experience and current certification status.     

Telecommunications Operator Career Path 

Telecommunications Operator I (TCO I)

• Possess a high school diploma or GED. No Public Safety Dispatch experience or NCIC Certification required.
• Starting Salary: $42,000

Telecommunications Operator II (TCO II)

• Internal Candidates: Serves as an SCDPS TCO I for 18 months. Successfully completes TCO/CAD certifications and NCIC/SLED/CJIS certifications.
• External Candidates: Eighteen months of Public Safety Dispatch experience and has or obtains NCIC Full Function certification within six months of hire.
• Salary: $45,263

Telecommunications Operator III (TCO III)

• Internal Candidates: Serves as an SCDPS TCO II for 18 months. Successfully maintains all certifications, reaffirmation, and work independently on various communications equipment.
• External Candidates: Three years of Public Safety Dispatch experience and has or obtains NCIC Full Function certification within six months of hire.
• Salary: $48,235

Eligible for promotion to rank of Assistant Telecommunications Supervisor (ATCS) – Promotional Process

Telecommunications Operator IV (TCO IV)

• Internal Candidates: Serves as an SCDPS TCO III for 24 months. Successfully maintains all certifications, reaffirmation, and work independently on various communications equipment.
• External Candidates: Five years of Public Safety Dispatch experience and has or obtains NCIC Full Function certification within six months of hire.
• Salary: $51,216
