COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, June 3, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, June 5, at midnight.

As of June 5, 2016, 392 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 391 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 265 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 126 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight June 5, 50 pedestrians died compared to 46 in 2015; 49 motorcyclists died compared to 52 in 2015; and ten bicyclists died compared to nine in 2015 on state roads and highways.
