COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, October 20, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, October 22, at midnight.

As of October 22, 773 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 818 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.
Of the 520 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 253 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight October 22, 117 pedestrians have died compared to 117 in 2016; 97 motorcyclists have died compared to 123 in 2016; and 15 bicyclists have died compared to 21 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
