COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of seven persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, March 11, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 13, at midnight.

As of March 13, 2016, 159 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 171 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 116 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 62 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight March 13, 21 pedestrians died compared to 27 in 2015; 13 motorcyclists died compared to 13 in 2015; and five bicyclists died compared to four in 2015 on state roads and highways.
