COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of seven persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, March 10, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 12, at midnight.

As of March 12, 2017, 178 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 185 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.

Of the 135 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 69 were not wearing safety belts. 

Through midnight March 12, 24 pedestrians died compared to 24 in 2016; 12 motorcyclists died compared to 19 in 2016; and three bicyclists died compared to six in 2016 on state roads and highways.
