SCDPS Reports Two Killed During Christmas Holiday and Two Killed on South Carolina Roadways December 27, 2019 to December 29, 2019

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of two persons killed on South Carolina roadways  during the Christmas Holiday Reporting Period, which started Tuesday, December 24, at 6:00 pm and concluded Wednesday, December 25, at 11:59 pm.

During the weekend period beginning Friday, December 27, at 6:00 pm until Sunday, December 29, at 11:59 pm, two persons were killed on South Carolina roadways.

As of December 29, 976 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 1,033 highway deaths during the same time period in 2018.

Of the 976 people who have died in 2019, 636 had access to seatbelts, and 305 were not wearing seat belts. 

Through December 29, 157 pedestrians have died compared to 168 in 2018; 116 motorcyclists have died compared to 111 in 2018; and 26 bicyclists have died compared to 21 in 2018 on state roads and highways.
