Civil Subpoenas and/or Civil Litigation

For service of process, including but not limited to Subpoenas in pending civil litigation, you may serve:

For civil subpoenas requesting information on automobile accidents, please include the TR-310 Accident Report with your request. This may be obtained from the SC Department of Motor Vehicles by completing Form FR-50.

If you wish to serve the subpoena in person at the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Headquarters in Blythewood, we are generally available to accept service between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Our facility is secure and requires an authorized person to meet you in the lobby to accept service. If you advise the SCDPS Paralegal at (803) 896-7965 that you plan to serve a subpoena in person, we can arrange to meet you in the lobby during normal business hours.

Service of Summons and Complaints on Out-of-State Drivers

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles assists attorneys who need to serve Summons and Complaints to drivers and/or motor carriers who do not live in this state. The SCDMV is a separate entity from SCDPS. Information on serving out-of-state drivers/motor carriers can be found here
