COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of seven persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, September 8, at 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, September 10, at midnight.

As of September 10, 662 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 710 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.
Of the 459 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 221 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight September 10, 91 pedestrians have died compared to 101 in 2016; 79 motorcyclists have died compared to 106 in 2016; and 13 bicyclists have died compared to 18 in 2016 on state roads and highways.
