COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of three persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, September 16, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, September 18, at midnight.

As of September 18, 2016, 689 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 680 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 443 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 211 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight September 18, 95 pedestrians died compared to 80 in 2015; 99 motorcyclists died compared to 103 in 2015; and 18 bicyclists died compared to 14 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
