COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 12 persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, October 21, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, October 23, at midnight.

As of October 23, 2016, 803 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 792 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 513 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 246 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight October 23, 115 pedestrians died compared to 97 in 2015; 117 motorcyclists died compared to 123 in 2015; and 20 bicyclists died compared to 15 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
