Patrolman Milam was on duty in Greenville County when he was waved down to break up a civil disturbance. Patrolman Milam attempted to arrest two men when a fight ensued. Patrolman Milam was killed when he was shot several times and struck over the head with a rock. The two assailants were arrested in Asheville, North Carolina and sentenced to death. Patrolman Milam was an officer with the Patrol for six months and was a native of Newberry County.
