COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, September 23, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, September 25, at midnight.

As of September 25, 2016, 703 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 700 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 452 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 216 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight September 25, 96 pedestrians died compared to 82 in 2015; 101 motorcyclists died compared to 106 in 2015; and 19 bicyclists died compared to 14 in 2015 on state roads and highways.
