COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 11 persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, March 3, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 5, at midnight.

As of March 5, 2017, 158 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 157 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016.

Of the 121 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2017, 63 were not wearing safety belts. 

Through midnight March 5, 20 pedestrians died compared to 21 in 2016; 11 motorcyclists died compared to 15 in 2016; and two bicyclists died compared to six in 2016 on state roads and highways.
