SCDPS Reports Four Killed During New Year’s Holiday and Two Killed on South Carolina Roadways January 3, 2020 to January 5, 2020

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on South Carolina roadways  during the New Year’s Holiday Reporting Period, which started Tuesday, December 31, at 6 p.m. and concluded Wednesday, January 1, at 11:59 p.m.

During the weekend period, which began Friday, January 3, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, January 5, at 11:59 p.m., two persons were killed on South Carolina roadways.

As of January 5, seven people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 19 highway deaths during the same time period in 2019.

Of the seven people who have died in 2020, five had access to seatbelts, and four were not wearing seat belts. 

Through January 5, two pedestrians have died compared to one in 2019; 0 motorcyclists have died compared to 0 in 2019; and 0 bicyclists have died compared to one in 2019 on state roads and highways.
