Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks was on duty performing a traffic stop in Orangeburg County on August 10, 2025, when he was struck by a box truck. The collision occurred on I-26 eastbound, near mile marker 165. Ricks died nearly four days later as a result of his injuries. Ricks joined the Highway Patrol in 2023, and was assigned to SC Highway Patrol Troop 7, Post B, where he patrolled the highways of Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.
