Learn About Our Various Safety Presentations!

The South Carolina Highway Patrol offers community outreach and education programs to help address unsafe driving behaviors before they occur. SCHP’s Community Relations Officers conduct 900 safety presentations on average each year to schools, civic organizations, and companies around the state.

These safety presentations aim to provide highway safety education and foster positive relationships within the community.

SC Highway Patrol offers several types of programs to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving, driving distracted, and speeding, as well as the importance of wearing a seat belt and staying alert behind the wheel.

Impaired Driving Course

Impaired Driving Course_icon The impaired driving course is a road course that simulates the experience of driving impaired. Participants use alcohol-impairment goggles while driving a specialized golf cart on a closed-course so they can understand how alcohol and/or drugs impair their ability to drive.

Corn Hole

Corn Hole_icon The corn hole presentation is a fun way to demonstrate the effects of varying levels of alcohol impairment. Participants use alcohol-impairment goggles while tossing a beanbag to a corn hole board. Troopers adjust the “strength” of the impairment with the googles so that participants see the difference alcohol makes in their motor skills.

Educational Talks

Educational Talks_iconEducational talks provide a general overview of highway safety and include topics such as driving impaired, driving distracted, driving defensively, using a seat belt, and more. Troopers can customize the subject matter of these talks to fit the age, size, and interests of the group.

What age groups do you present to?

Each presentation can be tailored to all age groups.

How long is each presentation?

Safety talks can also be adjusted to the space and time available.

How large of a course do you need for the impaired driving simulator?

We can adjust the size and shape of the course to fit your needs. Usually a small parking lot area that can be closed to traffic is all that is needed.

Is there a cost associated with having a trooper present a safety presentation?

No. There is no cost to the school or organization.
