Clear Bag Notice for Select Events at State Capitol Complex

To ensure the safety of all visitors at the State Capitol Complex, the SC Bureau of Protective Services is issuing a clear bag notice for select events. This includes the Stand Up for Life rally, which is scheduled on the State House grounds on January 11, 2025, beginning at noon.

Each attendee is allowed one approved clear bag.

Approved bags include the following:

• Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags or backpacks of any size
• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags

Exceptions may be made for diaper bags, medically necessary bags, and equipment bags for credentialed members of the media. However, additional screening will be required for entry.

Non-approved bags include the following:

• Non-clear backpacks
• Purses
• Drawstring bags
• Duffel bags
• Camera bags or cases for non-credentialed members of the media
• Tote or mesh bags
• Fanny packs
• Grocery bags or totes
• Cinch bags
• Coolers

Help keep our Capitol safe. If you spot any suspicious or alarming activity on State House grounds, report it immediately by locating the nearest law enforcement official on-site, or by calling the BPS Emergency Line at 803-734-2422 or 911.

Never assume someone else has taken action. If you feel suspicious behavior should be investigated, please voice those concerns.
