COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of three persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, April 29, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, May 1, at midnight.

As of May 1, 2016, 272 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 308 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015.
Of the 183 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 88 were not wearing safety belts.
Through midnight May 1, 37 pedestrians died compared to 39 in 2015; 33 motorcyclists died compared to 28 in 2015; and nine bicyclists died compared to nine in 2015 on state roads and highways.
