Media Advisory: BPS, UofSC Police Co-Sponsor DHS Explosives Training for K-9 Units

South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) and South Carolina Bureau of Protective Services (BPS) announce the following event:

WHAT: Regional Explosives Detection Dog Initiative (REDDI) Event

The South Carolina Bureau of Protective Services (BPS) and the University of South Carolina Police Department are co-hosting a Regional Explosives Detection Dog Initiative (REDDI) event July 14 – 15, 2021. Media will be granted access to interviews and video of some of those exercises on Wednesday, July 15, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

21 K-9 handlers, representing 14 law enforcement agencies statewide, will come alongside one another to participate in the two-day exercise. The handlers will learn the latest hands-on training to detect explosive threats, all made possible by funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate.

WHERE: Williams-Brice Stadium (USC Campus): 1125 George Rogers Blvd., Columbia, SC. Enter at Lot B off Key Road. Activities will be scheduled near Gate 68.
