  • According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan, speed ranks in the top five factors in fatal and severe injury collisions in South  Carolina.
  • Nationally, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speeding accounts for approximately 30 percent of highway fatalities each year.
  • Nationally, there was almost a 6 percent decrease in speed-related fatalities in 2018 with 9,378 deaths.
  • Nationally, in 2018, 30 percent of male drivers aged 15-20 years old were involved in speed-related collisions.
